For the Commute...

An iPod, book, newspaper, or a combination of the three is necessary when commuting in the city. Without one of these trusty pieces of media one (read: me) often may find themselves absentmindedly staring at fellow commuters. Trust me the wandering eye can cause plenty of awkward moments so arm yourself with forms of entertainment so as to avoid any such situation.

On days that the alarm clock goes off a bit too early, stick with the iPod. Here are a few suggestions to fill you playlist.

2. Kanye West - Heartless
3. Modest Mouse - You're the Good Things
4. Snow Patrol - Grazed Knees

Well kids, enjoy!

Twilight...

Okay, guilty confession time. I've read all four books in the Stephanie Meyers series. I'm a Jacob fan. And lastly, I secretly want to move to Forks, Washington.

Well actually, I don't EVER want to move to Forks, Washington and I don't feel guilty at all for having read the Twilight series. Come on, any girl that has read those books can tell you that they are Gooood. I mean G - double O - D, GOOD.

When I heard a movie version of the first book in the series was coming out, I knew I had to go see it. What I didn't know is how Ah-MAZING it was going to be. I loved it so much that I may or may not have seen it twice... within 24 hours.

Now all I need is a dreamy vampire boyfriend like Edward or a hunky one like Emmett and I'll be set :)

Skeptical? Click here to see the trailer.

xoxo

BTW - I'm almost tempted to go to Chinatown and buy a couple of pirated copies of the movie in hopes that one of them would be decent. I'll let you know if I get that desperate.

Halloween...

This was the first time I have dressed up for Halloween in a couple of years, and I must say I had so much fun. I dressed up with my friends Thomas and Brittany as characters from the popular TV series Gossip Girl. Thomas was Chuck, Brittany was Blaire, and I was Serena. We had so much fun!
Tink, Chuck, Blaire, and Little Red

Roommates!

Me and the crew from Gilligan's Island.

The three of us trying to do our best to look GG.

FLAVORFLAV!!!
Yo, what time is it?

Our best GG impression... in all the other photos we were laughing :)

All the pretty ladies!

There you have it!

Winter is Near...

Maybe the title should actually be "Winter is Here..." but today it was so warm that I was sweating. So for now, I'll just stick with near.

Anyways, with winter fast approaching I find myself constantly thinking of ski season, reading ski magazines, and stopping to take a look inside any store that sells mountain lifestyle apparel and accessories. I consider it continuing education :)

This year I am thrilled because it is time to get a new pair of skis. For the past five years I have skied on a pair of K2 Public Enemy's. They have been well-used and well-loved but it is time for these pup's to retire. This fall I has been full of extensive online research suplemented by magazines and gut instinct to help me choose my next pair of skis. It was a tough choice but in the end I went with these beauties.
They are the Rossignol S5 Barras ski. The skis are said to be one of the best all-mountain twintips of the season and were given rave reviews by testers from various ski magazines. As you can imagine I'm stoked to ski on these gems so bring on the snow!

BTW - My plan this winter is to ski in 3 states. Utah and Colorado have already been penciled in. Now where should I go for the 3rd place?

I Voted...

Go figure... I actually am old enough to vote in elections. How exciting, right? Well I think it is. And although you could probably already guess, I believe in conservative Republican ideals so I voted for the McCain-Palin duo today. My Grandpa Romans would be proud :)

Where's Whitney?

So friends, it has been a crazy busy month here in NYC... I went to Paraguay/Argentina with my mom and grandmother to visit our aunt and uncle (my uncle works for the U.S. embassy in Paraguay), had volleyball games every Thursday and two on Saturday's along with the occasional practice, planned a church activity within a week of when it was supposed to be and actually pulled it off (thanks activities committee!), and on top of it all it's been mid-term time at FIT. Whoa! Let me take a breather here....

Anyways, with all of this going on I was chatting with my big sis H who always seems to know a good thing or two that can give me brief entertainment and a break from whatever else I may be doing (a.k.a. she's a good procrastinator... love ya sis).  So sometime last week she had me take a quiz on findyourspot.com. They questions they asked were varied some were the typical "What kind of weather do you prefer?" kind but others were more random like "Is it important that you are within close distance to a hospital?" ... hmmm hadn't ever thought of that one before. Anyways, when you get done with all of the questions they give you the top 24 places that coincide with your preferences as indicated by the quiz. Here were my top 5:

1. Fort Collins, Colorado
2. Ogden, Utah
3. Provo-Orem, Utah
4. Missoula, Montana
5. Billings, Montana

Needless to say I was distraught with my results. Clearly Provo-Orem is not a city, they are two very distinct entities as one houses BYU and the other UVSC ( I know, I know it's UVU now...). And Montana? Really? The Colorado one doesn't seem too bad, but then there's Ogden, Utah. Ogden is the place I tell everyone I grew up because no one has ever heard of my real hometown of Roy. Not gonna lie, I love it there... maybe the quiz wasn't so flawed after all. I guess I belong back west of the Mississippi. Adios New York!

Guilty Pleasure...

Okay, so I know that when you read the title you automatically thought you'd be reading about some kind of food, or chocolate, or attractive man or something but surprisingly none of these are correct.

No my guilty pleasure has to do with gear... outdoor gear. I'm pretty much a geek when it comes to this sort of thing. I love when things are described as having tape-sealed seams or as being moisture wicking. Sick I know but I love it. There is one website in particular that I tend to hold high above the rest in terms of the online outdoor retailing world, the gem I am speaking of is backcountry.com. Now as much as I love looking at the many things they have to offer, I rarely, if ever, can bring myself to actually purchase something. (This is probably a good thing seeing as I am a student, and therefore don't have much of a disposable income)

Now here comes the kicker. Backcountry.com is such a great institution that it runs a discount site by the name of SteepandCheap. SteepandCheap runs one amazing deal on premium outdoor gear and apparel  at a time. The product is always at least 50% off and is sold via the site until that product is gone. As soon as that deal is over, another amazing one begins. So it is to a gear-obsessed nerds advantage to continually check the site to see the current deal. See how this can be habit forming?

Anyway, I have known about the site for about a year - it is on my bookmark bar for easy access - and I had yet to cave into making a purchase... until today. Today I caved. I bought a Lole down jacket. I know, I know... it seems frivilous. But I couldn't pass the 78 dollar deal on a formerly 258 dollar jacket. Yeah, sounds too good to be true, right? Well here is my purchase. Needless to say I am very excited.

So I know deep down you have a weakness for outdoor gear too. Lucky for you SteapandCheap isn't the only of its kind. Check out these other websites for deals that'll make you want to wear your Chaco's to work.

Weekend of Fun...

So I definitely cannot be one to complain that I had a boring weekend. First off the parentals were in town, which is always fabulous! Secondly, it is Fashion Week here in NYC and I went with my bestie Brittany to the Lacoste fashion show. I have been to a few shows but never before have I actually had a ticket and a seat! Here are two of my favorite looks.

This photo does not do the man justice. He looked so great in his monochromatic outfit... most people won't be able to rock it as well but props to those who try!

This little lady was so cute and beachy in her sherbet colored outfit, loves it!

So another fabulous happening of the weekend was the opening of the ColettexGap store. Colette is a Parisian boutique that is collaborating with the Gap for one month. Their products are being sold in this special little concept store on fifth ave. I went and stood in line on the opening day and was able to snag these classy Oakley sunnies....

Lastly... well for this post at least... I went to the U.S. Open out in Queens to see the women's final game. Needless to say it was AWESOME! Even though it didn't even start until 9PM. Craziness... who wants to watch tennis until midnight... oh that's right, me! Anyways, here is a picture of Serena after one of her many money shots... boy is that girl buff!

I hope your weekend was as good as mine!

Bump, Set, Spike...

After completing three years of college I decided to mix things up a bit and try out for FIT's volleyball team. The first day I was a bit rusty (to say the least) but I'm not too shabby anymore. Yesterday we had our first preseason game at Union Community College in New Jersey and we won!

One thing though, for being a fashion school our uniforms are disgusting! Like really, really bad. Note to self: must speak to the athletic director about uniforms.

Want to come see the sweat and spandex for yourself? Here's a schedule of our games.

Back to the City...

Hello, hello!

My summer haitus is over and I'm back to the real world... a.k.a. school in NYC. Other than the inevitable question of housing--where to live, who to live with, etc-- I have managed to avoid any major problems that often seem to accompany a move. Phew!

Carlotta and Jamar were so kind as to help me move some of my things (Thanks!) so I was able to enjoy some free time on this fabulous three-day weekend. Along with a few other singles, we went to a comedy club followed up by a little dessert at Red Mango. Delicious frozen yogurt if I do say so myself!

I'm Every Woman...

Whoa!

So maybe I forgot about the pure amazingness of the great songstress Whitney Houston. To dispel any thoughts, this obsession with Whitney has nothing to do with our shared name, nor did my parents name me after her. Although that would have been a good idea...

Moving on, the purpose of this post is to remind you of her greatest album, The Body Guard. It's so good that it encouraged HP and I to get to our feet and dance to the beat. Mind you this was after we ran the Wall Street Run. I know, I ran... amazing right, I ran! I didn't even have to stop... well except for when my shoelaces came untied. I must remember to double-knot.

Moral: Whitney rocks. Listen to the album. Watch the movie. (of the same name) Behold the greatness. (Before Bobby Brown corrupted her...)

Proof...

My father always teasingly tells his patients the following:

"Yeah, so my daughter lives in New York and goes to FIT (this is inevitably followed by, what's FIT... well it's the Fashion Institute of Technology, duh! Sorry, back to the story) and she just called me the other day and said Dad, did you know there are actually classes I have to go to?!?"

After which he explains that I am a blonde and I'm just a
fun-loving girl. All of this is hilari (the plural of hilarious, again ask my dad about it) but I'm sure it makes them think that I have an I.Q. of about nil. Oh well, then it makes for a pleasant surprise when they meet me and realize that I can form complete sentences.

Anyways, here is proof of my schooling:

This is a board that I created for my Home Textiles class. It was a compilation of suggested paints, fabrics, and fixtures for a luxurious library.

Cute, right?

Sad Days...

So, over the past couple of months Carlotta and I have gone on a couple of excursions with our favorite people, Christina and Madison. (Christina is our psuedo-cousin) Finally we documented it. To our dismay, Madison was missing this time because he had tickets to some fabulous Broadway show. Sad days--we are all moving away from each other for the summer! (except for Carlotta, her job kinda ties her down)

Eating dinner at Bubby's... one of my favorites!
Isn't Christina's hair the cutest!

To more excursions in the fall!

Read All About It....

So I may or may not have a pop culture/celebrity news challenged friend that I created a crossword filled with trivia for their pop culture education.  Too much time on my hands? Possibly.

One of the best(read: funniest and surprisingly reliable) resources I have found is PerezHilton.

The gay man knows his gossip.

In the beginning....

Today was no ordinary day... that is, it was filled with grocery sacks, pigs in a blanket, and laundry cards. Glamorous, I know, but it's typical.

Enjoy the adventures and the craziness that is sure to ensue!
